UltraTech Cement Expands Green Energy Capacity to 2 GW
UltraTech Cement has successfully commissioned 116.55 MW of wind capacity in Barmer, Rajasthan, and 10 MW of waste heat recovery capacity in Karnataka. These projects bring the company's total green energy capacity to 2,024 MW, meeting 48% of its power needs and aiming for 85% by 2030.

UltraTech Cement Limited, part of the Aditya Birla Group, has expanded its renewable energy portfolio by commissioning 116.55 MW of wind capacity at its wind-solar hybrid project in Barmer, Rajasthan. The company also added 10 MW of waste heat recovery system (WHRS) capacity at the Sarlanagar Cement Works in Karnataka. These developments bring UltraTech’s total installed green energy capacity to 2,024 MW, which includes 1,580 MW from renewable sources and 444 MW from WHRS. This infrastructure now meets roughly 48 percent of the company’s current power requirements.
Expanding renewable capacity is central to UltraTech’s strategy for lowering carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency. In Barmer, the hybrid project uses modern technology to capture both wind and solar power, while the WHRS at Sarlanagar Cement Works converts waste heat from the production process into usable electricity. By integrating these systems, the company is reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and strengthening its operational sustainability.
These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to clean energy and global climate goals. UltraTech has set a target for green energy to account for 85 percent of its total energy mix by 2030. Progress toward this goal is already evident at specific sites; for instance, at the Kukurdih Cement Works in Chhattisgarh, the company reached a milestone in September 2026, having met 100 percent of its electricity requirements through green energy since April 2026.
The transition to green energy provides clear environmental advantages. Investing in renewables and waste heat recovery cuts greenhouse gas emissions and helps conserve natural resources. This focus on sustainability is significant in the cement industry, which has historically been associated with high carbon output, and it underlines the role of responsible corporate practices in modern manufacturing.
UltraTech Cement is positioned to maintain its focus on sustainable practices within the sector. Ongoing projects and future investments in green technologies are expected to drive the company toward its long-term environmental objectives. As the industry evolves, these efforts demonstrate that moving toward renewable energy is a practical path for both business operations and environmental health.
